The Insignia of the POA was similar to the uniform and equipment standards. Sometimes a soldier would have the full set, sometimes none at all. The official POA insignia included armshield, shoulderboards and collar patches. The armshield was the most common and came in a printed form and a sewn form.
The collar patches were in black with silver tress, officers had additional silver piping on the edges. These were not as common as the armshields.
The shoulderboards were in a Russian Czarist, or M43 Soviet style. Often POA troops and especially Battalions serving in the west, had no shoulderboards at all. These came in grey, black or dark green, piped red or white. NCOs hada series of horizontal white bars sewn to the board, junior officers a single vertical red stripe, senior officers a double red stripe.
The tunic below shows a senior officers tunic of the POA with all the insignia correctly displayed.
